How to reset the service interval yourself on an Renault Trafic?

If you’ve just changed the oil, either yourself, at a mechanic, or with a friend, and forgot to reset the service interval on your Renault Trafic, this article will show you the simplest way to do it at home in just a few minutes.

Before your service, a key symbol usually appears, notifying you that you need to change the engine oil and filters within a certain number of kilometers. Until the interval reaches zero, the warning light doesn’t appear often and isn’t very annoying; it simply serves as a reminder for your general service. This interval is set by the manufacturer (or the mechanic who services your car), and it needs to be reset every time you perform a service.

If you forget to reset the interval after your service, the warning light will become annoying and will alert you every time you start the car that you need an oil change. Besides appearing at every start, it may also flicker constantly on the dashboard or show up at preset intervals to indicate you are overdue. It’s clear that if you don’t reset the service interval for your Renault Trafic using a tester, the warning light won’t go away and could even count down to minus 200,000 kilometers, continuously tallying the distance traveled if you don’t inform it that you’ve completed the change.

This article is not about how to reset the interval at a service center but about how to do it at home. Don’t go back to the service or call someone with a tester who will charge you 100-150 lei. We will teach you how to reset the service interval on your Renault Trafic in 5 minutes, for free.

Steps to Reset the Service Interval at Home:

Step 1: Open the app store on an Android phone. If you don’t have one, borrow it for 5 minutes or ask a friend to search for the app on their phone.

Step 2: Once in the Play Store, search for “Pro Reset Oil Service” or “Pro Reset Oil Service Free.” You will get many results, many of which will be free.

Step 3: Download the free app named Vehicle Service Reset Oil.

Step 4: Open the app.

Step 5: Search for your car.

Step 6: Select Make, Model, and Year of manufacture.

Step 7: Go to your car and follow all the steps the app tells you to perform.

Step 8: You’ve just reset the service interval for free, at home, in just 5 minutes. Feel free to leave a positive review for the creators of the app.

Step 9: If you don’t find your car (though the chances are slim) in the recommended app, you can download other free apps until you find one that includes your car.

Each car has a different reset procedure with various button combinations, which can be difficult to find and remember. That’s why we can’t provide the exact procedure for every car, but the app above handles that for us.

If you have a professional tester at home, you can do this even more easily by going to the tools section and searching for “oil service interval.” From there, you can also set when the next oil change reminder should appear.

Here’s an example of a button combination to reset the service interval on a 2013 VW Golf:

  • Press and hold the 00 button, the one to the right of the speedometer;
  • Turn on the ignition;
  • Release the 00 button and press the MIN button (next to the 00 button) for 5 seconds;
  • Done.

Resetting the service interval is that simple. Go to Google Play, download the app we used and found great, and reset the service interval on your Renault Trafic.
