The best-received BMW electric model in the Romanian market – several dozen orders almost half a year before its market debut.
BMW Group previewed the new BMW iX3 in Bucharest a few weeks after its global debut at the Munich Auto Show, IAA 2025.
The event took place at the Museum of Recent Art MARe, which hosts the first solo show by Dumitru Gorzo, a special artistic project that transformed the entire space. The presentation of the new model was also marked by a unique interpretation of the “BMW March”, a composition from 1930 dedicated to the brand by German composer Frank Anatol, with a performance by violinist Theodor Andreescu. The entire program aimed to showcase BMW’s unique positioning, with a tradition of over half a century of cultural partnerships, and a strong history of innovation and transformation – defining elements for the new BMW iX3.
The new model is available in the BMW iX3 50 xDrive version for a price of 65,461 Euros with VAT (54,100 Euros without VAT). With almost half a year before its market debut, BMW iX3 already has several dozen firm orders – high interest makes it the best-received electric model of the brand.
The new BMW iX3 was prepared for launch through a project named Neue Klasse, a highly important historical reference for the brand. The original Neue Klasse debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 1961. It was launched after a difficult economic period for the company – it was an immediate success and sparked BMW’s transformation into the recognized brand it is today. In the 1960s, through Neue Klasse, BMW embraced a sporty direction, created the slogan still used today – “The Ultimate Driving Machine”, opened the first series of major motorsport successes, and laid the foundation for modern model ranges – Neue Klasse is considered the predecessor of the 5 Series. Five Vision Cars. A Major Transformation. Neue Klasse.
The new BMW Neue Klasse range was announced with no fewer than five vision cars presented over the last four years.
BMW i Vision Circular showcased the concern for sustainable development and circular economy – from this perspective, BMW iX3 impresses with a CO2e footprint of only 13.5 tons in production, a value comparable to internal combustion engine models. The model uses one-third recycled materials, while in the case of the high-voltage battery, this percentage rises to 50%.
BMW i Vision Dee presented the digitization efforts and a new philosophy for the user interface. The new BMW iX3 uses for the first time a Panoramic Vision Display – a new display system across the entire width of the windshield, combining the clarity of a display with high contrast and resolution. The system benefits from a head-up display, placing information in front, in the windshield area, and projecting it at a greater distance from the dashboard area, for comfortable viewing. Additionally, the new BMW iX3 features a new trapezoidal central screen with Matrix LED, a 3D Head-up Display, and a new multifunctional steering wheel, all operated through a new generation of the operating system, BMW Panoramic iDrive.
BMW i Vision Neue Klasse and BMW i Vision Neue Klasse X focused on the new design language of the brand and diversified implementation across the entire range. By 2027, there will be 40 new models and model updates implemented using the technologies and design language introduced by Neue Klasse. A monolithic, simplified design stands out with new shapes for the grille, headlights, and taillights, defined by new light elements replacing classic chrome – a major transformation, yet remaining recognizable as an authentic BMW.
BMW Vision Driving Experience highlighted electronic architecture based on four supercomputers – the so-called “superbrains“, managing all vehicle functions: body and comfort functions, dynamic functions – Heart of Joy, autonomous driving functions, and infotainment functions. This ensures significant benefits – extended update possibilities over the air for functioning as a modern Software Defined Vehicle, a simplified, zonal architecture, reducing over 600m of cables. Simultaneously, the four “superbrains” offer unprecedented processing power. On the BMW Vision Driving Experience, the Heart of Joy superbrain can perfectly control a torque of 18000 Nm with a response time of less than one millisecond, ten times faster than a current series system. For BMW iX3, this performance translates into optimized control on any surface, significantly improved dynamics, and significantly improved brake control with enhanced regeneration.
Another essential transformation brought by Neue Klasse is the new sixth-generation propulsion system, Gen6. It combines an 800V architecture with BMW-developed cylindrical cell batteries, integrated into the vehicle floor as a structural element, on the “pack-to-open-body” and “cell-to-pack“ principle. An extensive package of improvements ensures top performance for BMW iX3 50 xDrive – up to 805 km in the WLTP cycle and up to 372 km range after 10 minutes of charging with powers up to 400 kW.
The transformation brought by Neue Klasse is complete, extending beyond the product to service levels. For example, the new car configurator ensures a high level of transparency by communicating the WLTP range for each individual configuration, displaying this information in real-time after any equipment change.
